After graduating from the University of Siena in Italy, I worked in general dental practice. At the same time I developed an interest in dental implant treatment and I furthered my clinical and academic background on this topic by earning a PhD in dental biomaterials. My PhD thesis focused on the degree of stability that dental implants reach in bone under different conditions.
I was then awarded a prestigious ITI scholarship that allowed me to attend for one year the University of Geneva, in Switzerland where I received further training on dental implant treatment at the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry and Occlusion.
Later on, I relocated to Sweden where I was accepted for a 3-year post-graduate training program in periodontology at the University of Göteborg. This well renowned university is a leading clinical and research institution for periodontology and dentistry in general. Göteborg is also the city where the first modern dental implant treatment was provided. On completion of the program, I was awarded the certificate in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry issued by the European Federation of Periodontology and I am registered with the General Dental Council as a specialist in periodontology.
Beside clinical activity limited to treatment of gum diseases and dental implants, I have a keen interest in scientific research and I contributed several publications mainly concerning implant dentistry.
