Periodontal Reconstruction

Reconstructive periodontal treatment can be successfully used when an angular defect develops in the bone supporting the tooth due to periodontal disease.

This treatment is based on a minimally invasive surgery to clean the defect combined with the  use of special proteins (Amelogenins). It has been very well documented for the past 20 years and it represents the gold standard in periodontal reconstruction. The function of these proteins in enhancing gum healing of the was first discovered in Sweden and after decades of large studies their effectiveness have been well documented.

Amelogenins are presently available under the commercial name of Emdogain.

When suitable indications are present this treatment may be capable of dramatically improve the prognosis of even severely damaged teeth like in the examples below.
